Into an Endless Summer

Rest now, November

Last night I stared at her a long time.
I studied her face
And felt her body next to mine
The heat of her
Like a summer’s day
The air from her nose
Like a cool breeze

I stroked her skin
And watched her eyelids fall heavier
With every blink.
I watched her fall into a deep sleep
But thankfully not as deep
as the one that awaited her
This one would only last the night.

Tomorrow, I will show her the heat 
Of a summer’s day 
Let her feel the trickle of waves
Let her bask in the final days
Of her time here.

Then at night again, 
I will stare at her a long time
Study her face
So that I will not forget it
After she enters her last sleep.
