You shot across the sky and upon you I wished,
For you, Sowon, and your happiness.
You look to be
Three years small
our bond matrilineal.
Tender as you make your way
Close to me, in a crawl.
The soft tendrils of the carpet brush underneath us
Criss-cross applesauce.
The sun peers in from the window
Its gold pouring into your eyes, shaped like mine.
In you I see flickers of familiarity,
And so my love grows for you
Infinitely.
“My wish, is for your happiness, Sowon”
You look up at me, small and shining
Your eyes twinkling in starlight
Like the night I saw you first.
As I reach my hand towards your twilight hair
Its silkiness drips over my fingertips
And soaks my palm
in smells of lavender, and
Johnson & Johnson.
‘Gentle on the eyes’ read the bottle
But they must not have meant mine.
My vision of you becomes blurry with tears.
The gentle black of your hair
Smears across my sight.
Your face growing unfamiliar
Though the light in it I still see
I reach for you again but the feeling of you is gone
I see only fragments of you,
Then figments until
I fear you are lost,
Sent back to the vast, night sky
All is forgotten except for your face
And the fact that
I loved you with every ounce of my being
even though I knew I should not.
In fact I could not,
and I would not.
For your happiness,
For my wish to come true,
Fruition, you could not come to.
